Unveiling - Tentatively Scheduled for July 3rd 2010 - Fergus_Keyes - 05-31-2010

[size=10pt]Hello Everyone;

I just wanted to take a moment to pass on the terrific news that our Wall Project at St. Columban is now almost completely done.

Thanks to the very generous donations from descendants, and others, over the last 5 years, the walls are completed; we have enough money & will order the caps for the walls this week - to be installed soon, and the Church at St. Columban has offered us $ 500.00 toward the final landscaping around the project.

The next step will be an official unveiling of the monument. At this point the idea is to tentatively schedule the unveiling for Saturday, July 3rd 2010 around noon. This would coincide with the celebration for the 175th anniversary of St. Columban planned for this date.

So my note today is to have everyone that might be available to mark their calendars for July 3rd 2010 ? it would be great to have as many descendants as possible at the unveiling!

We will have a meeting this Saturday morning (JUNE 5th) to decide on how we want to arrange the ceremony. This meeting will likely be at Kelley O?Rourke?s home in Baie D?Urfe - and if anyone would like to attend just send me an e-mail to info@stcolumban-irish.com and I will give you the time and directions.

We will likely continue with a little more fundraising since we would like to also install some plaques in the area in honour of the individuals that we know were buried in the Cemetery but where we have never been able to locate their tombstone and, if possible, to everyone that has worked so hard to make this a reality.

Once again, thank you all - and do tentatively mark your calendars for July 3rd?.

Re: Unveiling - Now Scheduled for July 3rd 2010 - jeff.legault - 06-18-2010

It is now official!

After almost 5 years from conception to completion we will unveil our Monument Walls

Saturday, July 3rd 2010 at 11am in St. Columban

Full details, including a tentative agenda; directions to St. Columban, etc.  are now posted on our front page at www.stcolumban-irish.com

It would be great to have as many descendants on-hand as possible for this event.

If you will attend, we do ask you to complete the RSVP portion of the announcement on the page so for organizational purposes we can have at least a ball-park idea of how many people we might expect.

Once again, thanks to everyone that has contributed morally and financially to help make this project a reality.
Hope to see you all there and please do pass on this information to family & friends and anyone else that you might think might be interested

It's Done - Thank you everyone ! - Fergus_Keyes - 07-03-2010

[size=10pt][size=10pt][size=10pt]It?s Done !

Under bright and sunny skies, today, we were able to officially unveil our wall monument to our ancestors.

With somewhere between 150 & 200 people, including our own Irish priest, Father Mike McKenna on-hand, the unveiling ceremony went very well.

It was followed by a great lunch under a large tent, with music by a Celtic group provided by the Town of St. Columban and then, Claude Bourguignon and his niece made a presentation about St. Columban from it?s founding to today ? 175 years.

So thank you to everyone that could attend - and also for the many e-mails from descendants and friends, who were unable to attend - but did send along their best wishes.

So we all hope everyone does get a chance to visit St. Columban and see these completed walls

Take Care

Fergus
